This past Sundays episode of WALKING DEAD (entitled “Clear”, easily the best episode of the season, thus far) seems to have caused some disturbances in the nerdosphere primarily of the “There’s no way Rick and co. would/could drive all that way” etc. etc. and so on…

season three

Well…I did some cartography work:

In the COMIC, Rick’s town (Cynthiana, KY) is six hours, by car, North of Atlanta, GA

The Prison is near Nunez, GA which is 2 hours Southeast of Atlanta, GA.

Woodbury, GA is 2 hours East of the Prison.

(Fort Benning, GA is 3 hours West of the Prison/1 hour South of Woodbury)

So, by car, it’s about 8 hours from the Prison to Cynthiana. 580 miles. If they left at 5 a.m. they would make it to Cynthiana 1 pm (if they stuck to speed limits which I doubt they would because, why bother?) And could, feasibly, spend 3 hrs gathering weapons and be back to the prison by midnight.

In the SHOW, Rick is from the fictional King County, GA. We’re never told WHERE “King County” is. Kirkman has stated that it’s “aways North of Atlanta”. Considering McCaysville, GA is on the border of Tennessee directly North of Atlanta we’ll call that “Kings County” since that’s as “aways North of Atlanta” as you can get with it still being Georgia. It’s only an hours drive. So, in theory, Rick’s hometown is only a four hour drive Northeast of the Prison.

Rick, Carl, and Michonne are driving in a 2010 Hyundai Tucson Limited. The mileage for the 4WD model (as we see it is when it gets stuck in the mud) is 28 mpg (hwy) with a 14.5 gallon fuel tank. So a full tank can get you about 400 miles or so if you take it to fumes. In order to make the theoretical 550 mile round trip from the Prison to the theoretical location of King County you’d have to fill up only once.

So, leaving the Prison at, say, 5 a.m. they could make it to King County, spend three or so hours loading guns/dealing with Morgan and be back to the prison in time for dinner.rick grimes zombies driving

I do the work so you don’t have to.

Robert Kirkman Podcast Review Image

The greatest comic book to live action TV show ever?! We think so. Especially after the way this season started. The jail, Michone, The Governor, and the deaths…this season has already had a lot of big moments in just the first four episodes.

Adam and Nick talk about what they love and what they think might be coming in the rest of the season. We are often asked what the differences are between the show and the comic…we go over that too.

WARNING! Only listen to this if you have at least seen up to season three episode four of The Walking Dead on AMC. In addition, we also make reference to things that happen up to issue 100 of The Walking Dead comic by Image.
